MahaRERA, has extended the deadlines for Agents to obtain Certificate of Competency. Read more, to understand the clauses of the new order and how it will impact the real estate agents and developers in Maharashtra.
Introduction
In order to bring about certain level of consistency in the practices of real estate agents, enhance knowledge and awareness of the regulatory & legal framework, MahaRERA had introduced basic real estate agent training and certification course for real estate agents across the State of Maharashtra. The said aspect has been brought to the knowledge of all concerned vide MahaRERA Order No 41A/2023 dated 10.01.2023.
Existing timelines
The timelines as mandated in Order No 41/2023 was as follows:

Extended timelines
On receipt of multiple representation for extension of these timelines MahaRERA has issued extension as follows:

The mandate mentioned in Clause (a) and (b) above shall apply to the following Persons:
All individual real estate agents in case of individuals
All authorized signatory in case of firms / companies / organizations.
All employees/ staff/ officers by whatever designation called working in firms/ LLP/ companies/ organizations of real estate agents, who interact with homebuyers/ allottees for effecting transactions in real estate projects.
The dates mentioned in the directions issued under MahaRERA Order No. 41/2023 dated 10.01.2023 shall be considered as substituted by the dates prescribed under this Order.
Conclusion
This is a welcome move by the authority to give more time to the real estate agents to obtain the Certificate of Competency. However, it also means that they have to act fast and prepare well for the online examination before the new deadlines. The certificate will not only help them to comply with the legal and regulatory norms but also to enhance their reputation and performance in the real estate sector. Therefore, it is advisable for all the real estate agents and developers in Maharashtra to obtain MahaRERA Real Estate Agent Certificate of Competency as soon as possible and avoid any adverse consequences.
